Strict Christian Standards

Regarding the renewed abortion concerns in the USA, the Bible is quite clear that "Thou shalt not kill," but I believe people who use this to forbid all abortions are following the "letter of the law."  There's a Bible verse that says, "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament, not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."  2 Corinthians 3:6.  I believe the "spirit of the law" means that there can be forgiveness and mercy, and not everyone's situations are the same....  Something like that.

The police, or at least the traffic police, might understand the letter of the law?  Or they use a term called "going by the book."  Some officers or judges in the courts may be known for being sticklers for the law....  They always want to follow all the rules and make sure they're doing everything just right, according to their understanding of the law....  But maybe many other officers and judges know that there can be mercy given....  They give people a break sometimes....
